How to Detect Supplier Risks Early with AI

Supplier Troubles Come Without Warning

A key supplier suddenly goes bankrupt. Materials don't arrive on time. These problems almost always show warning signs beforehand—but in most small businesses, the damage spreads before anyone notices.

AI Automatically Checks for Warning Signs

AI can regularly collect and analyze information such as:

  • News & press releases: Reports of bankruptcy, lawsuits, or scandals involving your suppliers
  • Financial statements: Sudden drops in revenue or a swing into the red
  • Reviews & social media: Posts about late deliveries or declining service quality
  • Corporate registry changes: Changes in leadership or business address

Tracking all of this manually is not realistic. Letting AI handle it means these checks happen automatically, every day.

A Simple Three-Step Approach

Step 1: List your key suppliers. Prioritize them by transaction volume, starting with the largest.

Step 2: Use an AI tool such as ChatGPT or Perplexity to create a prompt that regularly searches for the latest news on each supplier.

Step 3: Once a week, have AI compile the results into a brief report. If anything looks concerning, reach out to that supplier directly.

Start Small

You don't need to cover every supplier from day one. Start with your top three to five. As you get comfortable, expand the scope. Building an early-warning habit is one of the most effective ways to keep your business on stable ground.
